Profile: We are in our 76th year of production in our sugarbush located north of Mason, near Lansing. We've seen many changes through those years: our evaporators have gotten progressively larger and more efficient; we no longer tap by hand with brace and bit; and we don't haul sap from buckets to the collection tank. But we continue to enjoy the traditions of sugarmaking. We have maintained our century old sugarhouse, we savor the signs of spring in the woods, and we continue to enjoy the comraderie of family and friends at sugaring time.
Today we have about 1600 taps on a vacuum tubing system and we boil on a King 5'x16' evaporator with an add-on Steam-away and Forced Draft Unit. We fire with wood--both for the tradition and to help maintain our woodlot. Besides, we enjoy it! We burn about 15 full cords of wood in an average year and make about 4-500 gallons of maple syrup.
Since 1976, we have been serving the maple industry as a supplier of equipment and maple sugaring supplies. Our store, Sugar Bush Supplies Co., is open year round and is located on our Mason dairy farm.
