FALL MMSA GENERAL MEETING
September 23, 2000

The fall meeting of the MMSA was held on September 23 at the West Goodland United Methodist Church. The meeting began at 1:40 PM following a meal provided by the Church members. President Larry Haigh opened the meeting by thanking the ladies for the excellent food.

President Haigh indicated that the two new cookbooks are available for sale. The small book sells for 80 cents and the large books are $8.00 ea. Jean Maday was thanked for her time and effort put into the compiling and printing of the cookbooks.

The Secretary's minutes were approved as printed.

The Treasurer's report was distributed and reviewed by President Haigh. The Treasurer's report was approved.

President Haigh reported that three Board positions will be available for election at the January meeting. We are seeking nominations. Jean Maday is chair of nominations and should be contacted to nominate candidates.

President Haigh described the problems in obtaining Kress jugs. Extensive delays have resulted in people discontinuing to order jugs. Larry Haigh has called the Better Business Bureau and filed a complaint. This won't help to get the jugs but will put a mark on Kress' record.

There are new food laws in Michigan. The Lansing Legislature approved changes that affect food preparation and increase the fees for license. The January meeting will include a session to review the new law and how it affects maple producers.

The 2001 meeting is January 20 at the Doherty in Clare.

A bus trip will be made to the NAMSC meeting in Burlington, VT in October. Anyone who would like to attend should see Mary Douglass. The cost is $275 per person.

The meeting was adjourned at 2:00 PM

Respectfully submitted,
Jean Maday
