MMSA Winter General Membership Meeting -Jan 20,
2001 President Larry Haigh called the meeting to order at 9:45 AM. In excess of 220 people were in attendance. Minutes of the Fall Meeting were approved as printed in the Newsletter. John Anton presented the Treasurer's report, which was accepted as printed. Gerald and Leola Lundstrum from Nashville were honored with a life-time membership. President Larry Haigh introduced the following special guests: Dr Dan Keathly and Dr. Mel Koelling from MSU Extension, Arnie Hammel from the Shepard Maple Syrup Association and our current Life Members. IMSI Report: Mary Douglass reported that she had been elected as President of IMSI for the year 2001. She also noted that IMSI was developing sanctions for adulterated syrup and she presented a new poster, which can be used by producers throughout the industry. NAMSC Report: Larry Haigh reported that the research fund will be boosted by a new one cent per jug surcharge Dr. Mel Koelling and Dr Randy Heiligman are in the process of updating the North American Maple Syrup Producer's Manual and are in need of pictures for the effort. The 2001 IMSI/NAMSC conference will be in St. Cloud, Minnesota on October 21-24. Estimated cost will be $300.00 per person. Election of Board Members: Five candidates for Board members were introduced by the nominating committee: Tim Boonstra, Robert Scott, Jeff Bowen, Ron Thomas and Ron Kistler. After the ballots were counted Tim Boonstra, Ron Thomas and Ron Kistler were seated as Board members. Old Business: Roger VandeBunte introduced the revisions being planned for the MMSA web site. The "work in progress" can be viewed at www.ruby.cyberspan.net/mmsa-project. New Business: The 2001 Fall Tour will be in the Kalamazoo area hosted by Dodd's Sugar Shack. In 2002 it will be in the Boyne City area and in 2003 it will be in the Western Upper Peninsula. Larry Haigh adjourned the meeting at 10:15 AM. Respectfully submitted, |
