HOW TO CONTACT FISHER SCIENTIFIC INTERNATIONAL
by Russell P. Kidd

At the annual Winter Meeting on January19 in Clare, Dr. Heiligmann from Ohio State made mention about a non-maple syrup supplier for long stemmed hydrometers. The company he referred to was Fisher Scientific International.

Fisher Scientific is a very large company that sells over 600,000 products to the research, medical, environmental and safety industries. As such, they have a huge catalog and inventory of equipment they sell all over the world. For example, they sell all kinds of hydrometers for lots of different uses (specific gravity, Baume, Brix, petroleum, LPG, food, etc.). The point is, you will need to be very specific when placing an order as they have many, many types of hydrometers to choose from.

Here's how to contact them:

On the Internet, the URL is www.fisherscientific.com

Telephone: 1-800-766-7000

If requesting a catalog, ask for the one that caters to the food industries. Several of the Brix hydrometers listed on the Internet website were described as being for use with sugar or soft drink industries. NOTE: Many are calibrated for different temperature ranges, listed in degrees Centigrade.

Hope this is helpful. Russell P. Kidd, MSU Extension
