Michigan Maple Syrup Association Board of Directors’ Meeting September 28, 2002

The Board Meeting was called to order at 5:05 PM at Wagbo Peace Center. Larry reviewed the keynote speakers for the winter meeting and indicated that we also should work him into an interest session. Larry indicated that there was a conflict in the next meeting date for some Board members The date was changed from November 6th to November 5th.

There was extensive discussion about the fall tour  in the U.P. Distance, meals, times and locations were reviewed. Craig Arnold will make some contacts with the U.P.  producers for interest and availability.

Honorary Membership was discussed and several names were suggested. Jean indicated that she had not received any nominations from the general membership. The person will be selected at the November Board meeting.

The web-site was discussed There still is concern abut the time schedule as the project is still incomplete. Members can access the web-site. The person designing it has not been paid. Larry will speak to Roger about completing the program and payment expectations.

Cathi Bates reviewed the deadline dates for the Newsletter. She also presented ideas about advertising. Should advertisers have multiple pages of advertising and should we permit colored ads? The Board felt the newsletter should be primarily articles and information and did not want to substantially increase printing and postage costs. It was moved and seconded that the newsletter be: 1)Kept all black and white; 2)primarily informational; 3)limited to two pages of advertising per advertiser; 4)not permit discounts for length of advertising. Motion passed unanimously.

The Fall Tour just completed was discussed. Craig indicated that there were 95 attendees. It was suggested that mileage be added to the maps and also ,when there is a lot of driving, we should consider buses.

The next Board Meeting is November 5, 2002 at the Doherty Hotel in Clare.
