MICHIGAN MAPLE SYRUP ASSOCIATION The Board meeting opened at 7:23 PM at the Doherty Hotel on Friday, January 17, 2003. Steve Youdes indicated that the syrup judges are Bob Strong, Dale Forrester and Tom Cook. The candy judges are Ron Kistler and Bill Britt. The fall tour in the UP was discussed with Terry DeLoughary. Time schedule and producer visits were reviewed. Due to travel time the tour would probably begin with lunch and business meeting at Bark River the tours all afternoon. People would spend the night in the Escanaba area and continue the tour on Sunday, ending early afternoon. The plastic bags with MMSA logo will be sold to members for $100 a box of 500 or a stack of about 100 for $25. Individual bags would be 25 cents. A discussion about MMSA mugs followed, It was agreed that MMSA would receive 25 cents for each mug sold. Larry and Roger reviewed the status of the Web-site. Todd will be demonstrating the site on Saturday. Our IMSI representative has been Mary Douglass since she has served as President and Vice-president. The Next Board will need to determine the kind of representation we want to continue. The President of MMSA is usually the NAMSC representative. We owe NAMSC for 2002 Digest subscription. Roger will continue to receive 2003 dues until March and then work with the new person to transition for 2004 membership chair. Candidates running for the Board are: Fred Bates, Terry Coleman, Tom Cook and Joyce Ross. The ballots are in the packets but no names are pre-printed. One letter was received to nominate an Honorary Member, however the Board had already selected the recipient. Following this meeting Board members will need to assist in collating the packets.
