MMSA General Membership Meeting
September 25, 2004
First United Methodist Church - St. Louis, Michigan

President Maday called the meeting to order at 1:00 pm.

The men and women of The First United Methodist Church were applauded for providing us with an excellent noon meal. Guests from Indiana, Tour Hosts, and Board Members were recognized at this time.

The Secretary’s Report was referred to in the Fall Newsletter and approved by the membership.

The Treasurer’s Report was handed out to individuals, reviewed, and approved by the membership.

Fred Bates challenged the membership with an open plea for persons interested in serving in the capacity of Board members. Two and possibly three current Board Members will not be seeking re-election for the next term. President Maday took the time to explain the board's role, obligations and meeting schedule for interested persons.

Honorary memberships were discussed. Tim Boonstra is responsible for presenting names and offering suggestions of people qualified and deserving of this award.

Our delegate, Jean Maday, explained the role of the NAMSC and the IMSI. Both are good organizations supporting the cause of Maple Syrup Production and associated enterprises. She also explained some of the various topics funded for Maple Research by these groups. Larry Haigh has been our alternate delegate.

Rick Fogle gave an update on the fire at Sugar Bush Supplies and the tedious job of rebuilding this business. We wish the best for their future as they are an integral part of our success.

It was noted also that George Fogle was inducted into the American Maple Museums Hall of Fame this past year for his contributions and longevity to the Maple Industry.

Our Annual Winter Meeting is scheduled for January 22, 2005 at the Doherty Hotel in Clare. Our initial guest speaker, Randy Heigleman has informed the Board that he will not be able to attend our meeting as it conflicts with a prior commitment of his.

Craig Arnold recognized this years Fall Tour Participants and gave them our heartfelt thanks for opening their sugarhouses to us. It truly was a great time of learning and fellowship for all.

Respectfully Submitted,

Tim Boonstra
