The Sweet Farm

Neal Sweet
3146 M-65
Glennie, MI 48737

No doubt the sweetest stop in the town of Glennie is at the Neal Sweet Farm. This operation began with Neal’s father George, some 72 years ago with 20 taps. They have grown to 1,100 taps of their own and also purchase sap from others in the area. They utilize a 5’ x 12’ oil fired evaporator along with a gas finisher and filter press. Approximately 1/2 of their finished product is retailed from their home with the remainder delivered to area stores for resale.

Neal’s Sugarbush has been a lifelong project. Several thinnings of the bush have been carried out through the years with removal of all Hemlock, Ash, Oak and Soft Maple. Some products were sold as saw logs and others consumed for firewood.

In addition to producing Maple Syrup, Neal has an ice business located within his sugarhouse. He deals strictly on a local level supplying ice cubes and blocks to area businesses and a county park. One can learn more of this business endeavor while visiting the farm.
