Wherever your knowledge of maple ranges, from “never heard of it” to “several years’ experience,” you should investigate maple further. It is both interesting and challenging. It is interesting because the principles of making maple syrup need not be applied in any exact manner, which is evident when visiting various “sugar bushes” (maple forests) where maple is being processed. It is challenging because it is often difficult to get some of the principles of maple production to respond as expected—and predicting the kind of precise weather conditions needed to collect enough high quality sap adds to this challenge.
